Study Guide #10—Most Righteous God

study

By Kay Smith and Ruth Wood

The Bible shows God’s righteousness in two ways in particular—through His law and through His deeds.

l. Read 1 Samuel 12:6-25. In verse 7, Samuel says he is going to recount the “righteous acts of the Lord.” What sorts of acts does he then go on to describe?

2. Romans 1:16-17 says that the gospel reveals the righteousness of God. Read Romans 1:16 through 3:26, then after writing an overall impression or summary, go back and look at these areas in more detail:

3. Romans 1:18-3:30 is in a sense, background, or the “bad news.” How is God’s righteousness shown in 1:18-32? (What is He displeased with and what does He do about it?)

4. In Romans 2:1-16, in what ways will God’s final judgment be righteous (verse 5)? Especially look at Romans 2:6, 9-16.

5. If God is to judge without partiality and according to every man’s deeds (Romans 3:9-18), how will the final judgment come out?

6. Reread 3:21-26. How can God be righteous and not condemn everyone?

7. To think about: Are God’s laws and His ways of dealing with people truly righteous? How do you know?
