With Every Breath, by Julia Gannon
No Place Like Your Presence, by Julia Gannon
Not By Chance, by Julia Gannon

JuliaI was born in Ghana on the West Coast of Africa, to a Ghanaian father and a Swiss mother. After living in different parts of Europe for some years, in 2002 I ended up on the east coast of Canada, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

My involvement in music began early in life and has varied over the years from choirs to solos, from piano playing to songwriting. My first album ‘No place like here’ was released in 2007 after a long process of waiting, overcoming obstacles and persisting. I learned more in the process than I could ever have learned any other way, and I’m so glad I went through it! As it says in the book of James, the trying of our faith develops patience.

The theme of the album was the cry of my heart and still is: that I would be able to say with David, “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the House of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 27). The most precious thing on this earth is the presence of God Himself, which He has so freely made available to His children. But how easy it is to run everywhere else to seek contentment!

My prayer is that in the midst of the excitement of writing songs and recording, I don’t lose sight of the fact that it’s all empty without His presence. May I never get carried away with outward forms of worship at the expense of a heart of true devotion to Christ.

Speaking of recordings…. I’m currently slowly working on my second album. This time I’m not in a hurry, because I realize that the journey is just as important as the destination. This time, I’m taking in the scenery as I travel by….I’m marveling at the way God inspires melodies and lyrics, and then blesses the musicians and singers with the creativity to enhance those melodies and lyrics… until something truly beautiful emerges.

It’s hard for me to define my style, as I’m still in the process of developing it …. God is a God of limitless creativity and variety, so why put myself in a box? So, although I’m inspired a lot by artists like Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond and CeCe Winans, I want to be the me that God made me to be!

I’m so very grateful for the opportunity to share the gift of music God has given me with the world. The songs I write are birthed out of my relationship with Him and the experiences I go through: the tests, trials and joys of everyday life. Music is a vehicle that helps me to express what’s on my heart.

My prayer is that people out there, going through similar experiences (tests or trials, joys or victories) will be able to relate to the message in my music…and that the Holy Spirit will use it to touch their lives in a real and tangible way.
