Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. ~ John 15:13
There have been many accounts of parents who gave their lives to save their children—a father who managed to save his son from a house fire, another father who rescued his son after he broke through ice on a frozen lake, a mother who somehow managed to cushion her child with her body in a precipitous fall. These parents acted heroically and paid the ultimate price, but their children lived.
Love caused these parents to act instinctively, without hesitation. How much more so our beautiful Savior!
When humanity slipped into sin, He leaped after, wrapped us in a fierce embrace, and took the fall. Like heroic parents who have unreservedly laid down their lives, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might . . . live for righteousness . . . ” (I Peter 2:24).
Laid behind the stone
You lived to die
Rejected and alone
Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
